DMSO is widely used as a solvent and reaction reagent, especially as a processing solvent and a spinning solvent in the polymerization reaction of acrylonitrile. Used as a solvent for polyurethane synthesis and spinning, and as a synthetic solvent for polyamide, polyimide and polysulfone resins.
DMSO can also be used in organic electrochemistry: chromium chloride, manganese chloride and other transition metal halides and potassium chloride, sodium chloride and other halides have certain solubility in DMSO.
